Here's what you'll learn:
● Why is the baseline so important in Lo-Fi music? It provides the foundation, groove, warmth, and depth of your track.
● Choosing the right bass sound: Aim for warm, smooth, and subtle tones, using virtual instruments like vintage or Juno bass presets, or samples. Avoid harsh or bright sounds.
● Creating a baseline pattern: Keep it simple and groovy, locking the bass to the rhythm of your drums, focusing on root notes, and adding variations like octave jumps or sliding notes.
● Adding warmth and texture: Use saturation or tape emulation plugins, EQ to roll off high frequencies and boost low mids, and side chain compression to the kick drum for a pumping effect.
● Humanizing your bassline: Introduce swing, manually adjust timing, and vary note velocity to achieve a laid-back, off-grid feel.
● Advanced techniques: Layer two bass sounds for added depth, using a low sub-bass and a higher bass for texture.
